The Missing Piece to Landing Your First Ghostwriting Client
Read time: 4 minutes
Ayo!
Welcome to another week of SoloDriven Saturday!
This week, we're diving into one easy step I took to land my first two clients in the same week.
Let me tell you how to transform yout words into paychecks!

The Beginning of Everything
Landing your first ghostwriting client is like hitting that first home run, finally earning the right to call yourself a professional.
The journey of solopreneurship is where your skills, creativity, and business unite into one driving force.
But this is not just about typing words on a keyboard, it's about understanding social needs, connecting with individuals, and crafting messages that sell.
My first job as a copywriter really set the tone for my career, opening doors to more clients, better projects and financial growth.
I didn’t have any social media to showcase my writing skills
I had no social proof
So how did I do it ?
All You Need Is One Simple Thing..
A Well-Crafted Ghostwriting Portfolio
This is your ticket to the VIP section. It's where your potential clients get a taste of who you are.. your style, versatility, efficiency.
Example:
Picture a start-up looking for a copywriter.. They scroll around and find your portfolio, full of diverse samples - from punchy product descriptions to engaging blog posts. They're witnessing your ability to adapt tone, style, and voice to various personas. You impressed them, so they reach out for their upcoming campaign.
1. A well-crafted portfolio showcases your range and skillset, putting you in high demand for diverse clients.
2. It helps your brand’s credibility as a copywriter, positioning yourself correctly in a competitive market.
3. A complete portfolio can become a passive marketing tool, attracting clients while you focus on mastering your craft.
NOTE: Your portfolio doesn’t necessarily need to have work of previous existing clients. If you don’t have professional experience, just showcase your best practice projects, but only your best.
What Does A Great Portfolio Consist Of ?
Your Own Website
The digital anatomy of your hustle. Show the world who you are, what you’ve done, and what you stand for.Your Best Emails
Emails are your pitch, your voice, your deal-closer. Show proof of your ability to connect, convince, and convert.Sales Page, Landing Pages, Lead Magnets
Converting a curious visitor into a loyal customer.. that’s an art form. Your pages and magnets are your art gallery, showcasing how well you play this game.Product Descriptions
Every product has a story, and you’re the storyteller. How you describe a product can make the difference between a scroll-past and a sell-out.Newsletters
This is where you go deep. It’s about connecting with your readers on a level that goes beyond the transactional.Sharing Your Vision and True Intentions Behind Your copy
Behind every piece of copy, there’s a vision, a piece of your mind.
Sharing this gives context, adds depth, and shows you walk the walk.
Small Hacks That Increase Your Chances of Attracting Clients
Network in social media groups related to copywriting.
Offer a discounted price for your first clients, or offer to work limited for free (if you’re desperate).
Consistently update your portfolio and online presence with fresh content.
Did you know?
A slapping 73% of copywriters are self-employed, with many leaving their 9-5 for freelance work. This trend not only allows for more income potential but also offers the flexibility of independence, resulting in a better work-life balance (Source: Copywriter Insights).
Final Thought
Your portfolio is the bridge that connects you and your first client together.
But that bridge must be built on a solid foundation, so design it with love and attention.
That was it for this week’s “SoloDriven Saturday”, see you in the next one!
Stay driven,
Solo Out.
